Dr M.P.S. Bakshi has served PAU and then GADVASU in various capacities for over 31 years including four and a half years as the Head Department of Animal Nutrition GADVASU. His commitment to basic and applied research enabled him to handle 18 research projects successfully as Principal/Co-Principal Investigator which were sponsored by State National and International funding agencies. His contributions includes Processing and evaluation of poor quality crop residues; Nutrient requirements of dairy animals and feeding during transition phase; Exploring novel feed resources; Nutritional status of lactating animals in rural and peri-urban dairy complexes; Strategic supplementation of limiting nutrients and herbal feed additives etc to improve livestock productivity; Methane production potential of feed stuffs compounded and complete feeds; Mitigation of enteric metha+K310neemission; Rumen microbial diversity in small ruminants. Dr Bakshi has 316 publications (scientific reviews/lead papers/chapters/technical bulletins/extension articles) to his credit including 136 research articles published in National and International journals of repute. His team has received best research paper awards in National and International Animal Nutrition Conferences. ICAR has awarded Scientist Emeritus status to him. He acted as an expert in the Departmental Promotion Committee of CARI Izatnagar Research Advisory Committee of NIANP Bangalore and that of NRC on Yak Dirang and an expert member of Consortium Advisory Committee of 3 National Agricultural Innovative Projects (NAIP) at GNU Amritsar CSWRI Bikaner and TANUVAS Chennai. Acted as an expert in selection/assessment of teachers for the post of Professor/ Principal Scientist/HOD for different SAUs/SVUs and National Institutes. He has visited USA Indonesia Thailand and Pakistan for the cause of science. He has co-ordinated training of foreign delegates sponsored by IAEA; Organized workshops of NATP AICRP NAIP Punjab State Council of Science and Technology and Farmer Scientist Interaction Meet at PAU/GADVASU. He conducted the proceedings of technical sessions as Chairman/Co-Chairman in National and International Animal Nutrition Conferences. He served the Animal Nutrition Society of India as member CEC Joint Secretary Vice President and has been Chief Editor of Indian Journal of Animal Nutrition for 2 consecutive terms and as Vice President of Animal Nutrition Association of India. Dr. M. Wadhwa after completing her master and doctorate in Biochemistry from Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana Dr Wadhwa pursued Post Doctoral Research at Memorial University of New-Foundland Canada. She started her professional career as Assistant Biochemist in Department of Animal Nutrition and has 27 years research and teaching experience in Nutritional Biochemistry to her credit. Her pioneering work on Improving efficiency of nutrient utilization in poor quality crop residues; Nutritional status of Dairy Animals in Punjab; Methane production potential of feedstuffs available in the region; Enteric methane mitigation; Evaluation of novel feed resources; Strategic supplementation of limiting nutrients in high yielding cross-bred cattle especially during transition phase and Microbial diversity under different feeding regimens in small ruminants has won her peer and global accolades. She has 214 publications to her credit including 97 research articles in National and International peer reviewed journals a number of technical bulletins and popular articles. She has successfully guided 6 MSc/MVSc students. Dr Wadhwa during her 2 consecutive tenures as the Editor of the Indian Journal of Animal Nutrition has made significant efforts to invite research papers by eminent academicians and researchers from all over India and abroad. She served as the Secretary of Animal Nutrition Association of India. She has attended and contributed to academic discussions and conferences in Canada Malaysia China and Thailand and has been acknowledged with best paper awards. The Animal Nutrition Association conferred on her the Fellow of Animal Nutrition Association award (FANA) in recognition of her contributions and achievements.
